And just like that… it’s about to be spring? Wild.

The weather is bound to improve, but there’s no telling if the markets will follow suit. We’re navigating a lot of uncertainty right now — here’s my plan going forward:

Please Be Patient..
Navigating Uncertainty As I shared with my Founding Members during our weekly livestream on February 20th — this is only the beginning of volatility, unfortunately. As I’m sure all of you know, Russian troops have entered Ukraine. This is adding an unmeasurable amount of uncertainty for investors — specifically as it relates to inflation, supply chain co…

Let’s jump into everything you need to watch out for this week!

In this post, we’ll cover:

  • Quarterly financial reports worth reading

  • Investor events to keep an eye on

  • Major economic releases

  • Event-driven winners

The Investing Week Ahead - Too Long, Didn’t Read:

The Russian Ruble Crashes in Value as the world anxiously watches the invasion of Ukraine | Berkshire Hathaway earnings unsurprisingly impress | Lucid Motors could be in for a tough earnings report if it doesn’t properly defend production recalls | Zoom attempts to reverse its cratering | Dutch Bros looks to remain one of the darlings of the retail market | Apple hosts its annual shareholder meeting | DraftKings hosts a crucial investor event | Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona will give insights into the mobile communications industry | President Biden’s State of the Union Address is on deck as approval ratings hit record lows | Updates on the current status of Employment in the US | Insights from the Fed Reserve could provide Interest Rate Clarity

Key Earnings Announcements:

A diverse mix of tech and retail reports come at a time of widespread concern in the market.

Image

Monday (2/28): Berkshire Hathaway | HP | Lordstown Motors | Lucid Motors | Novavax | Workday | Zoom Video

Tuesday (3/1): AMC | Builders FirstSource | Domino’s Pizza | Dutch Bros | Kohl’s | Nordstrom | Plug Power | Salesforce | Sea Limited | SoFi | Target

Wednesday (3/2): Abercrombie & Fitch | American Eagle | C3.ai | ChargePoint | Coupang | Dollar Tree | Okta | Snowflake | Splunk | Veeva Systems | Victoria’s Secret

Thursday (3/3): Best Buy | Big Lots | BJ’s | Broadcom | Burlington Stores | Costco | Duolingo | Elastic | Gap | Kroger | Marvell | Smith & Wesson | TD Bank

Friday (3/4): Hibbett

Questions we’re asking:

  • As the market likely remains volatile for months to come, will Berkshire Hathaway continue to add to its $27B+ in share buy-backs from 2021? (p.s. pumped to be a large shareholder in this name!)

  • Will Lucid Motors get crushed due to worries about production recalls?

  • Zoom Video has had a nice recovery bounce of +6.5% over the last week. Will their earnings call this afternoon help turn around the once-darling of Covid plays?

  • Will Builders FirstSource continue to be a major winner in our portfolio?

  • While shares have sank for most, Dutch Bros is up +31.2% over the last six months. Can the Starbucks / Dunkin competitor continue to impress?

  • Will its earnings report justify Snowflake’s incredibly frothy valuation?

Investor Events:

A jam-packed week of investor meetings and conferences.

Apple to hold its 2022 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in virtual format on March 4th
Apple Park, Cupertino California
  • Thursday (3/3): DraftKings Investor Day

  • Friday (3/4): Apple Annual Shareholders Meeting

  • Throughout the Week: Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona, Morgan Stanley Energy & Power Conference, Evercore ISI Industrial Conference, BofA Securities Global Agriculture & Materials Conference, Cowen Mobility Disrupt Conference

Most excited to hear about how DraftKings plans to lower its customer acquisition costs over the long-term and find takeaways from the Mobile World Congress. Participants include Amazon Web Services (AWS), AMD, American Express, Amplitude, Lenovo, Meta, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung, and many more.

Major Economic Updates:

In the midst of global geopolitical turmoil, the week is full of critical economic reports — especially coming from the Federal Reserve. All eyes will also be on Biden’s State of the Union address and the Republican response thereafter.

  • Tuesday (3/1): State of the Union Address | ISM Manufacturing Index | Construction Spending | Atlanta Fed President Speech

  • Wednesday (3/2): ADP Employment Report | Chicago & St. Louis Fed President Speeches | Beige Book | OPEC Production Boost Decision | Fed Chair Powell Testifies in Congress

  • Thursday (3/3): Jobless Claims | ISM Services Index | Factory Orders | New York Fed President Speech | Fed Chair Powell Testifies in Congress

  • Friday (3/4): Unemployment Rate | Nonfarm Payrolls | Average Hourly Earnings | Labor Force Participation | Chicago Fed President Speaks

Over the past few weeks, the Ukraine-Russia conflict has heavily impacted the markets and caused investors to wonder if the Fed will stick to its current rate-raising plan. We’re likely get a better understanding throughout the week.

Regardless of the current global tensions, I don’t see a way that the Fed delays raising rates any longer.

Events-Driven Winners:

What specific events are moving the markets most?

Our friends at LevelFields took the time to scrub through thousands of data points and determine how events impacted stock prices last week. It’s a killer platform for catching trading opportunities as they arise.

This info may help you with forming your swing trading theses this week (if that’s your thing), or simply seeing what actions cause stocks to jump! I’ve become a bit interested in Universal Display (OLED) after realizing that Samsung, LG, Konica Minolta, and more are on the company’s customer list.
